Menifee Sports Up Close: Big Day for the Little Giants

No one had more fun at Menifee Pony Baseball Opening Day than the members of the Giants in the Filly Division, the youngest age group of all. They held out through the introductions and had a ball during their game as well.

Menifee 24/7 is pleased to accept highlights and photos from local youth leagues for publication on our website and Facebook page. Submissions should be emailed to menifee247sports@gmail.com.

If you would like to order a glossy print of any published youth sports photo and text with the Menifee 24/7 logo, suitable for framing, email menifee247sports@gmail.com with the words "print order" in the subject line. We will contact you with the details. You can show others how your son or daughter was published online!

Bell Mountain Bobcats Win PONY Middle School Title

The Bobcats were managed by Rob Prendergast. The players are Ryan Christensen, Thomas Bartholomew III, Nolan George, Owen Prendergast, David Toruno, Joseph Romero, Blake Alanis, Daniel Montgomery, Gabriel Talamantes, Henry Proger, Charles James, and Paul Turner.
Congratulations to the Bell Mountain Middle School Bobcats, who recently won the Menifee PONY Baseball 2013 middle-school league championship (Bronco Division) by defeating the Canyon Lake Cougars.

The Bobcats then went on to play in the MPB/TYB World Series, losing 2-games-to-1 against the TYB champion, Day Middle School. This is the second year that the Cougars won the MPB Champions Cup, with the first coming in 2011. The MPB Bronco-Division Champions Cup trophy will be on display in Bell Mountain Middle School's trophy case until the fall 2014 season, when it will be engraved and placed at that season champions' school

This is the third season Menifee PONY Baseball has been involved in the Middle-School Baseball program with TYB. Team tryouts are held each August and the season runs from September into November. Teams consist of players from each middle school, creating a middle school baseball team where there would otherwise be none

Menifee PONY Baseball organizes and supports these school-based teams in an effort to create school pride and unity within our local schools. For more information, visit WWW.MENIFEEBASEBALL.COM.

Menifee Pony Players Have a Ball at the Diamond

Hundreds of Menifee Pony Baseball players joined players from other local youth leagues Friday night, taking in the Lake Elsinore Storm's California League game against the Inland Empire 66ers at the Diamond.

Unfortunately for the young fans, the home team suffered a 7-0 loss to the 66ers. Lake Elsinore's record on the young season dropped to 2-6.

The youth players were introduced as they walked around the warning track before the game, finally settling into seats on the first base side to watch their local pro baseball team -- and, of course, the fireworks show that followed.

A crowd of 6,620 saw Inland Empire rough up Storm starter Frank Garces for six runs and nine hits in the first four innings. The Lake Elsinore left-hander gave up a two-run double to Joel Capote and a two-run home run to Alex Yarbrough in the fourth, his last inning of work.

Meanwhile, the Lake Elsinore offense managed just three hits in 6.2 innings against 66ers starter Kramer Sneed, who finally gave way to reliever Eric Cendejas with the game well in hand.

Cory Spangenberg hit a one-out double to left field for the Storm in the first inning, but Sneed retired the next 12 batters before allowing a single to Lee Orr in the fifth. Chase Headley, a San Diego Padre on rehab assignment with the Storm, hit a leadoff double in the seventh, but his pinch runner was stranded there.

Lake Elsinore hosts the 66ers again Saturday night at 6:05.

Menifee Pony Baseball Celebrates Opening Day

Opening Day for Menifee Pony Baseball was a big hit Saturday at Wheatfield Park.

Every field was occupied as boys and girls ages 4-14 took part in the various divisions of play following Opening Ceremonies. The day began with the introduction of the players and league board members, headed by league President Justin Vander Woude and Vice President Mike Adams. Thunder, the team mascot of the Lake Elsinore Storm, stopped by to join in the festivities.

Play then began on several fields and continued throughout the day, with parents cheering on the kids and dozens of volunteers keeping stats, taking photos and manning the snack stand.

Menifee Pony Baseball includes seven ages divisions: Filly, Shetland, Pinto, Mustang, Bronco, Pony and Colt. For more information on the Menifee Pony Baseball program, visit the league's website here.

Check here on Menifee 24/7's sports page for updates throughout the season. As soon as all the Opening Day scores are rounded up, we will post them here. Next weekend Menifee Valley Little League play begins, and we'll cover that, too.

Parents and friends: If you would like to submit photos, videos or game information for publication on our site, please email menifee247sports@gmail.com. Your contributions will make this a more fun and complete page!

Now check out our first video of the season, featuring some action from today's Dodgers-Blue Jays game in the Mustang Division of Menifee Pony Baseball. The Blue Jays won, 8-6.

And here are some more photos from Opening Day. Enjoy!
